Loading... Please wait...The Bold 3 9780 is the follow up on the impressive Bold 9700 which was released last year around the same time. The list of upgrades include a 5 MP camera with LED flash, 512 MB RAM(over the previous 256 MB) and of course the brand new Blackberry 6 OS. The chassis is pretty much same as the 9700 except for the slick faux leather insert in the centre of the plastic backplate. Blackberry rarely slacks on the build quality front and the Bold 9780 reiterates it with sleek, warp and creek free chassis with a minimalist high-grade finish. Apart from these, the 9780 still packs the same 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity, the full QWERTY keyboard and the 480x360 2.44-inch screen.
One of the reasons why BlackBerry OS 6 was so highly anticipated was the inclusion of the WebKit-based browser. It sports the same engine which delivers the seamless browsing experience on the the Desire HD and the iPhone. The new browser also brings in tabbed navigation support, which can be accessed by selecting the button in the browser's top-right corner. RIM has also thrown in a cool Chrome-like Cover Flow-style interface to switch between pages and open/close them. The 9780 supports seamless 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity with the option of toggling the settings them straight from the homescreen.
RIM smartphones are essentially about communication with the UI specifically designed to render seamless email experience with ease of setup, instant delivery/notification and a general no-fuss experience. The 9780 sports a further enhanced email experience by revamping the way it syncs with your Google contacts and calendar. It comes preloaded with the standard social-networking apps, including Twitter and Facebook, with theoption of background notifications(much like on Android devices). Furthermore, you can aggregate the feed info, along with any RSS feeds you may have, using the Social Feeds app. The Universal Search is another neat feature which lets you search through your web/mails/messages all from a single window.
The Bold 3 is not exactly a multimedia powerhouse, but it offers a decent music player, and the ability to sync with iTunes/Windows Media Player via the BlackBerry Desktop software. The mobile can also transcode numerous video formats. The BB OS 6 does feel slightly out of place in the non-touch UI but the 9780's seamless email experience and the near-perfect keypad more than makes up for it, with the improved battery being the icing on the cake.
